Programs
Playwriting
The playwriting component takes place between July and September 2022 virtually or in-person. Eight to twelve mentees are selected to workshop a first draft (10 pages) of a new script. During this time, they will engage in 3 Group Playwriting Labs (2h each) and biweekly one-on-one sessions with their mentor.
Group Playwriting Lab: Three 2h sessions will be held, that focuses on playwriting skill development, creative prompts, and discussing relevant playwriting topics through the lens of the texts at hand.
One-on-one sessions: Biweekly sessions with a mentor will be held that will focus on specific development goals for each participant.
Group Reading: The program will culminate in an in-person group reading at the end of September.
Recommended age range: 16-22
Directing
The mentor will work with their mentee between October and March to guide them through the process of directing a play, from planning for rehearsals, to assembling a creative team, to leading rehearsals, and adding technical elements, culminating in a production that is presented at the festival.
One-on-one sessions: The mentor will meet with the mentee to assist them in planning for rehearsals and leading a creative team. Mentors are encouraged to provide youth with examples from their own artistic practice that they can work from.
Recommended age range: 20-25
Stage Management
Between October and March, stage managers will receive one-on-one mentorship to teach them about the role of a stage manager, the prompt book, and how to communicate with different artists and team members. Mentees will practice their communication and leadership skills through a real production.
One-on-one sessions: The stage manager will meet with their mentor three times during the production process: pre-production, during rehearsals, and before tech week.
Group training sessions: Two SMing workshops will be held to teach stage managers about pre-production paperwork, and SMing duties during the rehearsal process.
Recommended age range: 18-22
